
In 2003 Rafael Davila made his Italian debut at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples as Riccardo in Verdi’s Un ballo in Maschera. The next year he made his debut with the New Zealand Opera where he appeared as Don Jose in Carmen and Alfredo in La Traviata. That same year he made his debut with the Sarasota Opera in Florida where he sang the title role in Werther, becoming the company’s favorite tenor and returning for eight consecutive seasons to perform the roles of Canio in Pagliacci, Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana, and Cavaradossi in Tosca. For their world renowned Verdi cycle, he performed the roles of Foresto in Attila, the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Carlo VII in Giovanna D’Arco and Oronte in I Lombardi.
In the 2010-2011 season Mr. Davila returns to Lyric Opera of Kansas City to perform the role of Pollione in Norma, he makes his Amsterdam debut as Rodolfo in La bohème, he returns to Sarasota Opera for the role of Oronte in Verdi’s I Lombardi and he will perform the role of Ismaele in Nabucco with the Palm Beach Opera. The 2009-2010 season began with his debut with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City as Cavaradossi in Puccini's Tosca and then he made his Palm Beach Opera debut as Don Jose in Carmen. Mr. Davila has also toured with Teatro Lirico D’Europa singing the roles of Don Jose in Carmen and Alfredo in La Traviata.
For Opera de Puerto Rico Mr. Davila has sung the roles of Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Alfredo in La Traviata, and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi. For the Fundacion de Zarzuela y Opereta de Puerto Rico he sang the role of Alfredo in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Camille in The Merry Widow as well as Leonardo in the Cuban zarzuela Cecilia Valdés and Javier in Luisa Fernanda.
He has also sung the role of Calaf in Turandot at Connecticut Grand Opera and Di Capo Opera in New York for which he returned the next year and sang the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto. He created the role of Ignacio in the opera Time and Again and he performed the world premiere of Barelas with the New Mexico Symphony under Guillermo Figueroa. Mr. Davila has also appeared with L'Opéra du Montréal, National Lyric Opera of New York, San Antonio Opera, Opera Tampa, Austin Lyric Opera, Fort Worth Opera and Opera Roanoke.
Mr. Davila sang the Mozart’s roles of Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serial, in Salzburg, Steyr, and Attersee in Austria.
His concert experience includes Verdi’s Messa da Requiem for PBS, Berlioz’ Beatrice et Benedict, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra. He has also sung Mozart’s Coronation Mass with soprano June Anderson and in Estevez’s Cantanta Criolla with The Seattle Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Gerard Schwarz. Other works in his repertoire include Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, Charpentier’s Messe de Minuit pour Noel and Magnificat, Misa Criolla and Navidad Nuestra by Ariel Ramírez, and the world premieres of Misa Jíbara by Nicolás Aponte and Anglican Requiem by Ignacio Morales Nieva. His recording of Misa Criolla was nominated for a Grammy Award.
