Bass-Baritone
Bass Simon Orfila was born in Alaior (Menorca). At the age of sixteen he joined the choir of the Opera of Mahón (Menorca), and eventually was invited to the School of Music “Reina Sofía” in Madrid, as a pupil of the late Alferdo Kraus.
In the 2009-2010 season he was heard in Barcelona for L’arbore di Diana, Oviedo as Don Giovanni, Firenze and Menorca as Mustafa, and ended the season at Opéra de Paris as Douglas in La Donna del Lago. In the 2008-2009 season he was heard Seville in La Vida Breve, Santiago as Mozart’s Figaro, Oviedo as Basilio, Don Profondo in Il Viaggio a Reims at La Scala, the title role in Don Giovanni in Tel Aviv, and Sarastro in Malaga. Other recent appearances include Norma in Munich, Macerata and Berlin, Lucrezia Borgia in Las Palmas, L’Italiana in Algeri in Bologna, Socrate immaginario at La Scala of Milan, La Cenerentola at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona, Montpellier and Geneva, La clemenza di Tito in Torino, and I puritani in Menarca.
He has sung several roles at the Opera House of Palma de Mallorca (Don Carlo, Un Ballo in Maschera, Il Trovatore, Adriana Lecouvreur), Mahón (Die Zauberflöte, Aida), Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona (Norma, Turandot in the opening performances of the theatre, Lucia di Lammermoor, Nozze di Figaro in the Robert Carsen production, Un Ballo in Maschera, I Puritani, Samson et Dalila with José Carreras, La Bohème, La Fattucchiera, La Clemenza di Tito, La Favorite, Don Giovanni, Il Viaggio a Reims, Maria Stuarda, L’Elisir d’amore, La Gazzetta and Semiramide). He has also appeared at Teatro San Carlos of Lisbon (Aida, Lucia di Lammermoor, La Donna del Lago), at the Opera House of Oviedo (Anna Bolena, Tosca, Le Nozze di Figaro), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Le Nozze di Figaro, I Puritani), Tokyo (Norma), Teatro Real in Madrid (La Cenerentola, Le Nozze di Figaro, Il Viaggio a Reims), Graz (Don Giovanni), Deutsche Oper of Berlin (Le Nozze di Figaro), Opera of Seoul (Le Nozze di Figaro), San Sebastián (La Donna del Lago), Naples (La Bohème, La Cenerentola, Socrate immaginario, Le Nozze di Figaro with Jeffrey Tate, Don Giovanni), Turin (La Cenerentola and Don Giovanni), La Coruña (Le comte Ory, Adelaida di Borgogna), Genoa (La Cenerentola), Florence (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), etc.
