Competition Facts:

• The Elardo International Opera Competition was established to recognize exceptional talent and to provide cash prizes, scholarships, grants and managerial assistance in order to assist in the final stages of their career development.
• The competition is open to classical singers of all voice types between the ages of 20 – 32.
• Cash awards, scholarships and prizes will total $100,000.00 for the 2008 competition.
• Preliminary auditions will be held in April 2008 in New York, Müchen and Bruxelles.
• Approximately 12 finalists will be selected from the preliminary rounds to compete in the final round of the competition, which will be held in Brugge from July 16th – 19th.
• Following initial rehearsals with the conductor and orchestra the finalists will be presented in a gala concert with the Charlemagne Orchestra and Maestro Van de Velde on July 19th at 3:00.
• All finalists will be provided with transportation and housing to participate in the final round of the competition.
• Adjudicators for the final round of the competition will include internationally noted performers, conductors and arts administrators.
• Select participants from the preliminary rounds of the auditions will receive scholarships totaling $30,000 to participate in the 2008 Intermezzo Professional Artist Program in Bruges.

Competition Deadline
The Competition Deadline for submitting all application materials is March 15, 2008. (see the Competition Rules for the complete application procedure.
Semifinal Round
The Semifinal Rounds will be held in New York, München Germany and Bruxelles Belgium in April 2008. Contestants who advance to the Semifinal Round will be heard in a live audition in front of the competition auditions panel. Contestants should prepare 3 arias in at least three languages that demonstrate their technical and artistic ability. Contestants must use the competition accompanist provided by the Elardo International Opera Competition. Approximately 12 singers will be invited from the Semifinal Rounds to sing on the Finals Concert.
Finals Concert
Contestants who advance to the Finals Concert will be provided with a minimum award of 1000 USD in addition to travel and housing to Brugge Belgium. Contestants will arrive on July 16th for rehearsals prior to the Finals Concert, which will take place on July 19th at 3:00. Contestants who advance to the Finals Concert will sing 2 arias and will be presented in a concert format with the Charlemagne Orchestra and Maestro Bartholomeus-Henri Van de Velde. Competition prizes will be awarded from the Finals Concert.
The Elardo International Opera Competition is open to singers of all voice fachs between the ages of 20 - 32. Contestants will not be judged against each other but rather will be rewarded for their ability to demonstrate a level of exceptional potential.
1. Competition Dates:
March 15, 2008: Application Deadline
April 2008: Semifinal Round (New York – München - Bruxelles)
July 16 – 19, 2008: Finals Concert, 3:00 PM (Brugge Belgium)
Semifinal Round – April, 2008 New York – München - Bruxelles
Approximately 100 contestants will be invited to advance to the Semifinal Rounds.
* Contestants may not make repertoire changes from their original application.
* Contestants must use the accompanist provided by the Elardo International Opera Competition.
* Contestants will sing a minimum of two arias for the Semifinal Round.
Finals Concert – July 16 – 19, 2008 Brugge Belgium
Approximately twelve contestants will be chosen from the Semifinal Round to advance to the Finals Concert. Rehearsals witth the Charlemagne Orchestra will take place on July 16 – 17 with the Finals Concert on July 19 at 3:00 in the afternoon. Each contestant will sing two arias on the Finals Concert and will be adjudicated by a panel of judges. Awards will be presented at the reception following the concert.
2. The competition is open to singers of all nationalities.
3. Contestants must be between the ages of 20 – 32 at the time of the application deadline competition.
4. Applications must be received by March 15, 2008. Applications received after this date will not be accepted. Incomplete applications will be discarded. All application materials become the property of the Intermezzo Foundation and will not be returned to the applicants.
Application packets must include the following information:
* Completed application: Submitted online at http://www.intermezzofoundation.org
* Copy of Birth Certificate, Passport, Drivers License or Identification Card.
* Complete resume including performances, schools, teachers, additional professional activities.
* Recent photograph.
* Application fee of $50.00 (payable by bank or postal money order or through our online merchant account).
5. Application fees are nonrefundable.
6. All application materials become the property of the Intermezzo Foundation and will not be returned.
7. Intermezzo Foundation reserves the right to use any recording made or photograph taken in conjunction with the competition as they see fit. No compensation will be granted to any contestant as a result of the use of these materials in print, or any other medial format.
8. Intermezzo Foundation reserves the right to make any changes they consider necessary for the effective running of the competition.
9. Intermezzo Foundation reserves the right to withhold any award at the discretion of the adjudicating panel.
10. Decisions of the members of the adjudication panel are final.
11. All contestants must abide by the official rules of the competition.
12. Present members of Wolf-Piper Artists International are not eligible for the competition.
